TC-11'S BUSINESS


TERMS OF REFERENCE

  • To promote co-operation and exchange of information on unstable natural and man-made slopes.
  • To represent the Society in the 8th International Symposium on Landslides (8th ISL) in Cardiff, UK, June 2000 and promote the continuation of this series of symposia in the future.
  • To organize a parallel session on landslides and possibly a satellite meeting in the XV International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (XV ICSMGE) in Istanbul, Turkey, August 2001.
  • To support the organization of the International Symposium on Slope Stability Engineering : Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Aspects (IS-Shikoki) in Matsuyama, Japan, November 1999.
  • To support landslide related activities such as IGCP activities related to landslides and publication of the international newsletter LANDSLIDE NEWS.
  • To participate into the IUGS Working Group on Landslides.
  • To participate, as invited, in the program to be organized for the International Conference on Geotechnical & Geological Engineering (GeoEng 2000) in Melbourne, Australia, November 2000.
  • To continue the activity with respect to publication of monographs on monitoring instrumentation and on well documented case records related to instability of natural slopes.
  • To encourage activities related to conceptual and mathematical modelling for the analysis of gravitational deformations.
  • To establish liaison with TC2 and TC7 as far as phenomena of slope stability of common interest are concerned.
  • If appropriate, to co-operate with TC12 in the area of validation of software for computer simulations in the area of slope stability.
  • To further the development of new concepts in the field of the landslides mechanics, from initiation to termination.
  • To establish and coordinate landslide risk assessment methods and mitigation procedures.
  • To favour exchange and training of professionals and graduate students in the field of slope stability.

SHORT TERM ACTIVITIES

  • Establish and improve the WEB site for TC11 and link it to the many other landslide related sites.
  • Continue the translation of the Glossary on Landslides and eventually make it available on the WEB.
  • Selection of the next ISL, host country.
  • Support field instrumentation.
  • Modify landslide reporting to ensure inclusion of debris flows and similar mass movements.
  • Prepare a plan for the establishment of field schools in various parts of the World and seek financial support of international organisations of host countries.
